Shares of cryptocurrency miners surged on Friday, as Bitfarms, Cipher Mining, and Hut 8 continued their upward trajectory following the news that trading firm Jane Street has taken significant positions in all three Bitcoin mining companies.
Filings submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday revealed that Jane Street’s trading affiliates hold approximately 5.4% of Bitfarms, 5% of Cipher Mining, and 5% of Hut 8, indicating passive trading positions rather than activist investments.
In response to this news, the stocks increased by 8% to 13% on Thursday and maintained their upward movement on Friday.
At the close of the market on Friday, Bitfarms (BITF) saw an increase of 10.68%, Cipher Mining (CIFR) rose 19.73%, and Hut 8 (HUT) climbed approximately 17.27%, according to data from Yahoo Finance.

Other Bitcoin mining stocks also experienced gains on Friday, including American Bitcoin Corp. (+11.29%), IREN Limited (+12.60%), and Hive Digital Technologies (+17.77%).
Jane Street, a prominent proprietary trading and market-making firm involved in equities and digital assets, first revealed its investment in Bitcoin miners in 2023, notably through its stakes in Marathon Digital (MARA).
This disclosure follows Google’s announcement of acquiring a 5.4% stake in Cipher Mining on September 25.

Bitcoin Mining Companies Outperform Bitcoin in 2025
Bitcoin mining, which involves the use of specialized computers to solve complex mathematical problems to verify transactions and create new Bitcoins, is essential for maintaining the network’s functionality and security.
While individual Bitcoin miners may occasionally succeed in mining a block, the sector has become increasingly dominated by Bitcoin mining companies, many of which have seen notable growth in 2025.
Over the past year, numerous Bitcoin mining companies have outperformed Bitcoin itself.
According to data from Yahoo Finance, Bitfarms has surged nearly 131%, and Hut 8 has increased by approximately 211% in the last 12 months. Currently, Bitcoin has risen about 73% over the same period.
